When I think about science I think about hands on, fun experiments, which then of course means a lot of supplies that will cost me as the teacher a lot of money. However after visiting http://nicholasacademy.com/scienceexperiments.html I realized I could not be more wrong. On this website it shows how to correctly conduct science experiments with your students that will not burn a hole in your wallet. In fact this website lists more than 128 science experiments. Although, some are cheaper than others, they are all for the most part inexpensive. The experiments on this website are for a variety of ages. Some of the experiments are...
- Egg in a bottle
- Cabbage Indicator
- Spoon Reversal
- Sweet Tea
- Floating M's
- Why we use Soap
As you can tell from just these few experiments that I listed they are inexpensive because they use items that are around your house. This also great because that means the students have access to the supplies as well, so they will be able to conduct the experiment at their homes on their own. I really enjoyed this website and encourage you to check it out.
This is a great topic to research! I am sure there are many ideas out there for science experiments on a budget. I think that these can be shared with the students as well in a classroom. I remember in grade school having to do a science project with a partner- the subject and topic was open- so we could basically pick anything. Some groups brought in huge volcanoes and what seemed to be costly and time consuming projects. My partner and I did something with balloons and soda bottles. Especially if kids are doing projects themselves, giving them these ideas would be beneficial as well.
ReplyDeleteThis resource is absolutely fantastic. I think money is one of the biggest barriers for allowing students to do hands on science activities. Limited money means limited objects/things to represent ideas in a concrete manner. Much of the research-based evidence collected, support students learning better when they see a concrete representation of an idea first. This website can ease a teacher’s worries with so many cheap ideas available.
